We appreciate your interest in acquiring ECARF certification. Here are the answers to our most frequently asked questions. If you have a question that is not included below, feel free to contact us.
-
Which products and services can be certified with the ECARF seal?
We have set up categories for many products and services and developed scientific inspection criteria for the individual categories. If your product or service falls into one of the established ECARF product and service categories, you can apply for the ECARF Seal.
-
My product does not fall into any of the ECARF categories. Can I still apply?
On a case-by-case basis and in consultation with our scientific advisory panel, we may decide to develop new inspection criteria for certain product groups. Explain to us how your product improves the lives of people with allergies. Please note that we do not certify any medications and, to begin with, you must provide scientific evidence that demonstrates how your product offers health benefits to people with allergies in their daily lives.
-
Where can I find the latest valid inspection criteria?
You can view all the criteria here.
-
Does my product or service need to meet all the requirements as set out in the criteria?
Yes, all of them.
-
How does ECARF check the quality of the products it certifies?
All products and services undergo inspection in order to determine whether they meet all of our criteria. This task is assigned to the ECARF Institute. We verify the information provided by the manufacturer about the product or service and request an independent inspection and quality certificates from test institutes. These certificates must be in line with the requirements as specified in the ECARF inspection criteria. If all the criteria are fulfilled, the application can be approved by the Foundation and the product is granted the Seal.
-
How long is a certificate valid? What happens after that?
An ECARF certificate is valid for two years from the date of issue. In order to remain valid, the product or service cannot be changed in any way during this period. After two years, the company can decide whether to apply for re-certification to extend the certification period.
-
How much does a certification cost?
Certification with the ECARF Seal is subject to a charge. We will be happy to advise you on current prices. Please contact us.
-
Can I adapt the graphics or colours of the ECARF Seal to my corporate design or packaging design?
The ECARF Seal is a registered trademark. Changes to the layout and content are not permitted.
-
My company produces a range of products that have slightly different ingredients – for example, a soap with different scent variants. Can a Seal application be submitted for just one product?
No. If the ingredients or composition have been changed, it is important to note which components have been changed and how the entire formula or composition has changed. For this reason, a separate Seal application must be submitted for each product the first time. The ECARF experts then check the different compositions and decide whether the product range can be considered as one product and certified as such.
-
My company sells the certified product to retailers who process it further or sell it under their own name. Can I simply pass on the ECARF Seal?
No. Each final product must be individually registered at ECARF so that consumers and authorities can access transparent information on the validity of the Seal.
-
My company has changed the formula of the product certified by ECARF. What do we need to do?
Any changes to the product that may have an effect on tolerability in people with allergies must be reported immediately to the ECARF Foundation. ECARF will check whether the changes to the product have any consequences on the validity of the Seal. New tolerability specifications for the changed product may be required, or the certificate will be adjusted to the new formula/revised composition as necessary.
